Fiona: Remember to always help people!

My friends and I wanted to buy a present for our parents. After all, you shouldn’t return home empty-handed. But as we all know, choosing the right gift can be really hard. While walking down Las Ramblas, we came up with the idea to have portraits drawn of our parents.

While we were waiting at a woman’s stand to get the drawings, we saw something. A man, who was also a street artist, was being yelled at by a woman. He quietly packed up his things and moved about ten meters away to continue his work.

My friends Agnesa, Eraa and I felt sorry for him. First he had to deal with being yelled at, and then he had to move all his stuff. So we decided to offer our help. You could see the sadness in his face disappear, replaced by happiness. In the end, he even drew portraits of our parents for half the price—not because we asked for a discount, but because he appreciated the help.

We didn’t help him because we expected something in return. We helped him simply because it’s what we would hope someone would do for us if we were in his situation!
