Pia: Waiting 3 Hours in the Sun for This??

Before the Blanes story continues, here a short recap of my week: This week at work started with a delicious assignment. On Monday, we were sent on a slightly different mission: explore the local market with a small budget and the goal of creating food content. With cameras ready and money in hand, we set off. We tried everything from juicy strawberries and savory jamón to flavorful olives. Before heading back to the office, we went to a nearby cafe and had breakfast.

Then came Tuesday, and with it, a surprise from our boss: he had secretly been working on his own homemade schnapps. Naturally, we turned the tasting session into an impromptu content shoot, capturing every sip and reaction. But now, the journey in Blanes continues:

So, what happened after we got directions to that mysterious taxi station in Blanes? Well, upon arrival, we found ONLY ONE unoccupied taxi. And by "unoccupied," I mean that there was simply no driver.

We called a few taxi centers but none could help us. Uber wasn’t available in Blanes, and hitchhiking didn’t work either.

When we finally spotted a taxi nearby, it turned into an full-on race. A woman tried to flag down our taxi, and Ahlagül sprinted toward it while waving like her life depended on it. Despite getting there first, the other woman spoke to the driver in Spanish and ended up TAKING the ride.

At one point, we spotted a car from Vienna and waved at it frantically. Eventually, we gave up and decided to walk about 50 minutes on foot.

Luckily, five minutes into the walk, we saw a taxi and waved it down. The driver asked us to wait a moment while he dropped off another passenger, but we finally had an unoccupied taxi.

We arrived at the beach, which was beautiful but way too crowded. After about an hour, we decided to head back. We climbed the steep hill we had previously walked down to reach the beach and made it to the car park. We called a taxi but it never came. So, we walked to the street and asked the security guard at the gate for help. He ended up calling one for us. At last, we were taken to the train station, where we had to wait another 30 minutes for our train.

In the end, we spent about 3 hours in Blanes just walking and waiting for taxis. All to see a beach that was stunning but overcrowded.

But the day wasn’t a total loss. We rented bikes and rode along the beach promenade, the breeze and evening sun helping to shake off the stress. That simple ride turned out to be the perfect ending to a chaotic day.
