Matteo: A terceira semana – meio tempo

More than half of my stay in Lisbon is already over. And if past experience is any guide, the final stretch tends to pass even faster. Since this is a recap of week three, that means I’m already three-quarters through the experience.

My third week was really interesting.

To be honest the work I did was in no way out of the ordinary. I am working in a pharmacy, but to be honest there is not too much to do. Apparently July is a popular month for tourism in Portugal, hence there’s not much going on at the pharmacy. In general I am tasked with the arrival of all medications. These come three or more times daily and then have to be registered and stored away depending on their type. E.g. some like Ozempic must be put in the freezer, although they don’t seem to be in there for very long due to the on-going hype these kinds of weight-loss drugs appear to have currently.

After a not-so-busy week at the pharmacy it was clear to all of us in Lisbon, that we would have to properly use our last weekend in the city. As such we spent Friday evening going out and partying. This also meant that getting up in the morning on Saturday wasn’t all too easy. We took the train to Sintra to go and visit the “Palacio da Pena”, which is a famous Romanticist castle and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sintra.

Afterwards we went to “Cabo da Roca”, or more precisely to a beach called “Praia da Ursa”. Which is honestly on of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. It’s  situated quite far off the track as it is about 15ish kilometres west of Sintra. Also once we got there we had to hike for another half hour or so to then get to our destination. But honestly it was completely worth it as we were rewarded with some of the most stunning views I’ve ever seen! Once we got back it was already 11 p.m. or maybe even a bit later and we were all exhausted and practically fell into our beds. So the next day we slept in a little longer and then went to the beach. To be honest it was a different one, just because it was closer and we didn’t want the hassle of going there again. Instead we went to “Costa da Caparica” where we took a surf lesson. Admittedly it wasn’t too successful because on the day the breaks where quite large. Nevertheless it was so much fun. So all in all I would say it was a really good week and now the only thing left to do is to relish these last few days.
