So this is it. My final blog. It is crazy because this last month seems to have gone by in a blur. I can vividly remember the day I first set foot at the Lisbon airport.
Obviously we wanted to use our last few days to get the best out of the city and visit some highlights, so that’s just what we did. But first we started this week with an unexpected encounter. On Monday we meet up with an old friend of Marton and I – Zinedine who was in our class in the first grade and as it happened was also just visiting his sister here in the city. It was really interesting to get to talk with him again after so many years. We also went across the river Tejo by ferry to look at the sunset and visit the statue of Jesus which is practically overlooking the entirety of Lisbon. This also means that there are some great views to be had from up there. Another thing we really wanted to do was go to Cascais and jump off a particular bridge, due to it being scenic. One thing we didn’t count on were the tides. As it happened when we got there said tide was really low and as such we couldn’t risk taking the jump (it was a 6-meter drop with approx. half a meter of water below). Also the weather on that day was quite cold.
On our last day in the city we got a free segway tour around the city by Lea & Patricia. This also meant that we got to see some parts of the city (like pink street) that I hadn’t yet, in spite of them being famous. So now after having seen some other sights, there’s just one concern left. I am writing this blog the day before our departure and our airline has just sent us an E-Mail informing us about strikes at all major Portuguese airports.(Update: There was no problem at all!)
So now there’s but one thing to say. Farewell Lisbon.
