Agnesa K.: Mi viaje a Barcelona

I didn’t start my trip to Barcelona alone, but with my two closest friends (Eraa and Fiona). We met at the Salzburger Hbf and took the train to Munich. From there, we had to switch to another train to get to the airport. Then it was time to weigh our suitcases and check in, which all went smoothly.

When we arrived at Barcelona airport, we were happier than ever, but also very exhausted since we had been awake since 5 a.m., because our flight from Munich was at 10:35 a.m. It was a bit complicated to get out of the airport and buy a ticket, but that was NOTHING compared to what happened outside the airport.

We decided not to take a taxi but instead to use the metro and, if necessary, the bus, since that was the cheaper option (but also the most exhausting). Thanks to Google Maps, we were able to check which bus to take to get to Barcelona which we managed to do (we got off at Plaça de Catalunya). From there, we took the metro (keep in mind: we were fully packed with suitcases, backpacks, pillows, etc. in unbearable heat). We had to carry our suitcases up and down all the stairs because we kept getting lost in the metro or took the right line in the wrong direction. Sometimes people offered to help us, which was very kind but we never knew whether they were thieves or not (we were so desperate we accepted their help anyway).

Well, after all that getting lost, we finally arrived at the address where we were supposed to pick up the key for our Airbnb. As if our journey hadn’t been exhausting enough, we had no choice but to walk 20 more minutes to our Airbnb, where we arrived sweaty, red-faced, and starving. We were so happy we had finally made it but of course the problems weren’t over yet. When we tried to open our apartment door, it wouldn’t open. At that moment, we thought we’d been scammed and would now have to find a new place to stay. Luckily, it turned out we had just been given the wrong door number by mistake, and after waiting half an hour for the host to respond, we were finally able to enter our Airbnb.

All that wandering around in Barcelona cost us four valuable hours. What did we learn from it? On our way back home, we’re definitely taking a taxi.
