Fiona P: My Phone is dead - Now What?

I have never felt as lost as the day I couldn’t find my way home.
It was only my second day working in Barcelona. After work, I thought I knew the way home well enough and decided not to use Google Maps. That was my first big mistake — I went in completely the wrong direction.
To this day, I still ask myself how I managed to head the wrong way.
While I was on the bus, I had a strange feeling something wasn’t right. I checked Google Maps, and sure enough, I was way off track. I got off the bus immediately and hopped on the metro in the right direction.
As I sat in the metro, an announcement came on telling everyone to leave the train at the next stop. I only had 10% battery left. That’s when I decided to go to my friend’s workplace instead of home, since it was closer. It was a 10-minute walk — and my battery was already down to 8%.
When I got to the place, my friend wasn’t there. I checked the address again and realized I had typed in the wrong house number — I put 23 instead of 235. Please don’t ask me why I was so lost that day — maybe it was the heat!
My friend texted me and asked me to send my location so she could come find me. But I didn’t listen. I had just found a bus that would take me straight to her stop in 10 minutes, so I texted her: “Be at the stop in 10 minutes.”
That was the last message I sent — my phone died right after.
When I got off the bus at the stop, my friends weren’t there. I felt so desperate. Then, I saw a mobile phone store and rushed in. “Can I charge my phone, please? I lost my friends,” I asked. Thankfully, they let me. I was finally able to contact my friends, and they picked me up.
It’s amazing how quickly your feelings can change. Just a minute before they found me, I was close to tears. But once we were back together, we laughed about the whole thing. Since that day, I never leave the house in Spain without a 100% battery.
And honestly, I’m actually a bit happy all of this happened, because before I had no idea what to write about on my blog.
