Vanessa: Landing in Barcelona - The adventure begins!

A whole week of my internship in Barcelona has already passed and a lot has happened. There was everything from horrible shopping to nightly fire alarms, but let's start from the beginning...

On Friday, Rosa, Valentina and I travelled to Salzburg Airport after our Erasmus+ Training Day, with one final short stop at home. Our flight went smoothly, and as soon as we stepped out of the plane, we were greeted by boiling hot weather. After a fairly long taxi journey through evening traffic, we finally arrived at our home for the next four weeks. We were luckier than others with our accommodation: clean rooms and reasonably nice German roommates.

The first big grocery shopping didn’t go as we planned. Rosa was sick and so Valentina and I went together. We thought, "Hey, let's go to Lidl because it's the most Austrian thing nearby." However, we hadn't considered that we would have to walk the entire way back with six full, heavy bags in the midday heat.

On Monday, Valentina and I started our internships at BlueSalt SUP and Surf School. Rosa was sick for a few days and started on Wednesday. Our job basically involves helping with the equipment and looking after the children for only four hours a day. The best thing is that we get to swim in the sea, surf and sunbathe for free. Working in Spanish can be quite difficult, especially when the instructors don't speak English well and explain things in Catalan. You just stand there nodding as if you've understood everything!

Also, there were some fire alarms in the middle of the night over the last few nights that woke us up. I have no idea how you manage to trigger an alarm so late – why don't you guys sleep?! Luckily, the alarms turned off after a few seconds, but I hope they stop!

Anyway, the first week is over, and I'm REALLY excited to see what the next three weeks will bring!
