Valentina: My Erasmus+ Internship in Barcelona - Surf, Sunshine and Summer Camps

Hola a todos!

I’m currently spending part of my summer in Barcelona with my friends Rosa and Vanessa as part of our Erasmus+ internship, and I’d love to share a bit about my experience so far.

We arrived on Friday evening and spent the weekend getting to know our new surroundings. Barcelona is a vibrant and beautiful city, and we’ve already fallen in love with its mix of beach and culture. By Monday, we were ready to start our internship — and we’re all thrilled with the placement we found!

We’re working at the BlueSalt School, a surf and stand-up paddle (SUP) school located in a small bay right by the sea. It’s a truly wonderful place to work — the atmosphere is relaxed, the view is amazing, and the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming.

This week, all three of us had the same working hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., which made everything easier and more fun. From next week onwards, our shifts will be different, which is a bit of a shame, but we’re sure we’ll still have a great time.

At the moment, the school is running summer camps for children. Each week, 20 to 30 kids join to learn how to surf and paddleboard. Before heading into the water, they practice their balance using skateboards — a great preparation for surfing!

Our role is to support the instructors and assist the children in many different ways. We help them put on their life jackets, carry boards to and from the beach, and guide them during the skateboard sessions. We’re also responsible for keeping an eye on them in the water, making sure they’re safe and having a good time.

The work is both fun and rewarding. It’s never boring — every day is a little different — and there’s a great mix of activity and relaxation. Plus, when it gets too hot, we can go for a swin in the sea to cool off whenever we want! 🌊☀️

One thing I’m especially proud of is that we found this internship completely on our own, without the help of an agency. That makes it even more satisfying to know that we made a great choice. I genuinely enjoy my work, and I feel very lucky to have such a unique and exciting opportunity.
