Hello from Barcelona!
We are Teodora and Miriam, and we have just completed our first week of our internship in Barcelona. It has been an exciting week full of new experiences, new people, and unforgettable memories.
We arrived in Barcelona on Saturday and went directly from the airport to our hostel. We are staying in a cluster apartment together with five other classmates. Although we each have our own bedroom, we share the kitchen and living room, which has been a great way to spend time together, cook meals, and talk about our days.
On Sunday, we explored the city centre for the first time. Walking through the streets of Barcelona was exciting because everything felt new. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful architecture, small cafés, and the lively atmosphere.
On Monday, we officially started our internships. Teodora is working at CIEE Study Abroad, where she helps plan social media content and will also take part in activities with international students. Miriam is completing her internship at Kingsbrook School, a language school that teaches English and Spanish. She works in the school office, and she was offered the opportunity to attend Spanish classes, which she happily accepted.
Our normal working hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., although this sometimes changes depending on the schedule.
One of the highlights of the week was Wednesday, when Miriam joined a bike tour with her colleagues and later Teodora joined the group as well. During the tour we visited many famous landmarks and learned interesting facts about Barcelona. The funniest moment happened when we both fell off our bikes. Luckily, nobody was hurt, and we laughed about it afterwards.
On Thursday, Teodora accompanied the CIEE team to the airport to welcome students from the USA. It was very interesting to see how international students are welcomed and supported when they arrive.
Next Wednesday, Teodora will join an excursion to Tossa de Mar, where she will take photos for the company's social media channels.
After work, we explored Barcelona almost every day. We spent a lot of time in the city centre, visited the Bunkers del Carmel for an amazing view over the city, and enjoyed swimming at the beach. The waves were very strong, making it even more fun.
One of the best parts of this experience has been meeting people from many different countries. Through work and our hostel, we have already made new friends and learned about different cultures and traditions.
We are also getting to know Spanish and Catalan culture better every day. From the local food and lifestyle to the friendly atmosphere, every day teaches us something new.
Our first week has been full of new experiences, interesting people, and unforgettable moments. We have already learned a lot, both personally and professionally, and we cannot wait to see what the next few weeks in Barcelona will bring!
