Sebastian: First day in Barcelona

We started our journey early in the morning, taking a smooth train ride from Salzburg to Munich. Everything went perfectly, no delays, no stress. At the airport, we were all excited, talking about beaches, tapas, and the sun.

The flight to Barcelona was fine, and we landed full of hope and energy. But that’s when things took a turn.

We had to take a train from the airport to our student residence. It was 35 degrees outside, and we waited 40 minutes for a train that never arrived. Sweaty and confused, we changed our plan. Instead of the train, we took the tram. It was not easy, we had to change three times with all our heavy luggage.

Arriving at the student residence, we expected something clean and modern. After all, it’s our new home for the next few months. But sadly, it was not what we hoped for.🥲

The rooms were dirty. Maria even had tons of small flies in her room. The common areas looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. There were cigarette butts, crumbs, and a lot of random trash on the floor. Definitely not what the pictures had shown.😫

But the biggest surprise was the apartment assignment. We, Maria, Lena, Maxi, and I, were supposed to stay together in a “cluster”, that’s what they call the shared apartment with a kitchen. Instead, Maria was on the 3rd floor, and we were placed on the 5th. Not great.

After 4 days of many telephone calls and disasters Maria was staying in the 4th floor while her room was cleaned but the fourth was very clean and there was only one student living there, who was very friendly and let us cook and chill in his living room. In the end we agreed with the accomodation that Maria woould stay on the 4th floor and the boy lets us cook there.

As a result we all can say make the best out of the situation and there is always a better solution. Now we can clearly focus on our stay here in Barcelona with some sightseeing and partying.  🍾
