Rosa: From Sickbed to Surfboard – My Start in Barcelona

Hola from sunny Barcelona!

I’ve been here for about a week and a half now, doing a one-month internship – and it’s already been quite an experience.

I’m living with my two friends, Valentina and Vanessa, in a nice apartment. Each of us has our own room and bathroom (which is amazing), and we share the kitchen with three other flatmates – all of them are German too and really friendly.

We arrived on Friday, June 27, in the evening after flying from Salzburg. Sadly, I was really sick that day – fever, sore throat, earache, cough, runny nose… everything at once. So while the others explored the city during the weekend, I had to stay in bed and rest.

On Monday, the first day of work, I still wasn’t feeling well and had to stay home. Same on Tuesday. But at least I used the time to talk to our flatmates and get to know them better.

Finally, on Tuesday evening, I felt good enough to go into the city with Valentina and Vanessa. We were only out for about two hours, but it felt great. We went shopping and soaked up some Barcelona atmosphere.

On Wednesday, I had my first real day at work. I’m working at a SUP and surf school called Blue Salt School. My tasks include getting the boards ready for the kids and paddling with them. At lunchtime, two of us usually go to buy melons from a supermarket nearby.

Now I’m finally feeling better – and ready to really enjoy this beautiful (and very hot) city!
