Paula S. - My Birthday in Seville

Turning 18 is already a special moment, but celebrating my 18th birthday in Seville made it even more unforgettable. Funny enough, my birthday fell right in the middle of my Erasmus+ internship. I definitely didn't expect to celebrate my birthday this way, but it turned out to be one of the most special days of my time in Seville.

My day started with my very first day of work at the company. We were warmly welcomed by everyone, and our supervisor Ruben explained our tasks in Spanish, which was a little hard to understand at first because of how fast he was speaking. But after he started speaking more slowly, we understood everything and finished our tasks in no time.

After finishing work, we went to Oakberry and finally tried the açaí bowls that I had wanted to try for a long time. Afterwards, we walked around the streets of Seville for a while and then headed home before the midday sun got too intense.

At home, I had no idea what was about to happen. While I was getting birthday wishes from my family, my aunt suddenly called me and told me there was a surprise waiting downstairs. Of course, I was really curious and immediately went downstairs. When I opened the door, my aunt was standing there with balloons in her hands, shouting, “Happy Birthday!”

I was completely surprised because I hadn't expected her to be in Seville at all. Apparently, while we were waiting for our transport at Seville Airport a few days earlier, she had already spotted us. She quickly ran away so that we wouldn't see her. Luckily for her, we were completely oblivious

and didn't notice a thing. Looking back, I still find it funny that she was so close to us and I had absolutely no idea.

In the evening, we all went out for dinner together at an Italian-style tapas bar with lots of small pasta dishes. Later, we headed to the Metropol Parasol, where we enjoyed the amazing view over Seville and all the beautiful lights of the city. It was the perfect end to the day.

Overall, my birthday in Seville was really special. Even though I didn't get to spend it with all my loved ones, I got to celebrate it in a completely different city with my friend and my aunt. It was definitely a birthday I won't forget anytime soon and one of my favourite memories from my time in Seville.
