Nea D: Behind the scenes at a Busy City Hotel

¡Hola again from sunny Barcelona! As promised, here’s a little peek into my daily life at Hotel Abba Sants.

My shift starts at 8:00 AM, but I arrive early to change into my uniform in the staff locker room. Once ready, I head to reception and greet my lovely colleagues and manager with a cheerful “Buenos días.” We always have a friendly morning chat, which sets a great tone for the day.

First, I check our shared OneNote for daily updates and reminders, then log into our Property Management System (PMS), where we manage bookings, check-ins, billing, and more. I review the day’s reservations and help guests throughout the day, check-ins and check-outs are actually my favorite part!

Language-wise, I’m improving a lot. I can manage well in Spanish now, and for tricky parts like emails or phone numbers, I simply ask guests to write them down to avoid mistakes.

One unique part of our day is giving a wake-up call to the Kuwait Airways crew around 12 PM. If they don’t answer their phones, we knock on their doors to be sure they’re up on time.

My colleagues are incredibly supportive, and I learn so much from them. I also help store luggage when rooms aren't ready yet and assist with some admin tasks like sorting documents and printing payment reports. We always double-check everything, especially invoices and cash amounts in our cash register.

At 10:30 AM, we get a much-needed breakfast break—the food is amazing and really helps us recharge. The hotel is part of a larger chain and the team is professional, friendly, and well-led by Coral, our director, who keeps everything running smoothly.

Every week, my manager challenges me with a 3-minute Spanish presentation (the time increases weekly!). It reminds me of our oral presentations back at school and I think my Spanish teacher would be proud!

If you're considering an internship in Barcelona, I really recommend Hotel Abba Sants. You’ll gain real hospitality experience, improve your Spanish and work in a great atmosphere. As I already mentioned in my last blog a few people were missing in the picture, for example, Johanna my teacher and also Olga but she was behind the camera taking the photo.

Hasta pronto!
