Marlies G: Week four – saying goodbye to Lisbon

And just like that, the final week in Lisbon is over. The last few days of work were relaxed and easy-going. There was no more stress, no more surprises, just a calm end to this month-long adventure. We spent the remaining time enjoying each other’s company and soaking up every last bit of this experience. One of our last outings was a final trip to Cascais, a place we’ve come to really love. Strolling along the coastline, feeling the salty breeze one last time, was the perfect way to say goodbye.

On Thursday, we did something a bit different: a Segway tour through the city with our guides, Lea and Patricia. It was such a fun way to explore Lisbon cruising through the narrow streets, past colourful houses and viewpoints, all while learning more about the city’s history and charm.

Then came the moment we all knew was coming. Early Saturday morning at 2 AM we headed to the airport. We were a little nervous because there had been news of a strike at the airport, with possible delays and complications. But in the end, we were lucky: everything went smoothly, and we made it home without any problems.

Unfortunately, home greeted us with classic post-vacation weather, rain in Munich and even more rain back in Salzburg. And it didn’t stop in the following days either. Not exactly the welcome we were hoping for. Still, I look back on this month in Lisbon with nothing but gratitude. It was a journey full of ups and downs, challenges and unforgettable moments. I met great people, saw incredible places, and learned a lot, not just about the city, but also about myself. It was a beautiful experience, one I can honestly recommend to anyone who’s thinking about stepping out of their comfort zone and diving into something new. Obrigada, Lisboa. Until next time.
