Lea: Our First Tour Guide Experience in Lisbon

Last Thursday was a very special day – it was our last day of work, and Patricia and I had the opportunity to give our very first Segway tour!

But this wasn’t just any tour… it was a tour for our friends Marlies and Matteo, which made the whole experience so much fun. We had been looking forward to this moment for a while. After spending several weeks getting to know Lisbon, learning about its history, culture, and all the best spots, we finally got the chance to share everything we’d learned. And what better way to end our work experience than by showing our friends around the city we’ve come to love?

The tour lasted about two hours, and we really made the most of the time. We took Marlies and Matteo through the heart of Lisbon – from the historical neighborhoods to the scenic viewpoints. We showed them famous landmarks like the Praça do Comércio, the Elevador de Santa Justa, and the beautiful Alfama district with its narrow streets and colorful houses. We even made a quick stop at a viewpoint, where we could all take in the breathtaking view over the city and the Tajo River.

As we cruised through the city, we shared little stories and facts about Lisbon – some historical and some funny things. We talked about the 1755 earthquake that changed the city forever and many other things. Even though we weren’t professional tour guides, we gave it our best and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere during the tour was super relaxed and full of laughter. Because we were all friends, it felt more like a shared experience than a guided tour. We joked around, took lots of pictures, and just enjoyed the beautiful day together. Patricia and I tried to make the tour both informative and entertaining, and I think we succeeded.

It was a moment I’ll always remember – not only because it marked the end of our job, but also because it showed me how much I had grown during this time. Giving a Segway tour, even a small one, in a foreign city was something I never imagined doing. But we did it!
