Jonas N. & Amelie E.: 3 minus 1 to almost none - the fight against the waves🚨! Week 1 Malaga Blog...

¡Hola a todos! Bienvenidos to our first blog post from Malaga.

After safely arriving in Málaga on Saturday, everything went perfectly fine for Jonas. For Amelie however, things turned out a little differently.

After checking in, we headed straight to the beach. When we returned to our apartment and entered the code to unlock the door, we immediately noticed that it wouldn’t open. We desperately tried several more times, but nothing changed – we were locked out! After calling our host, we had to wait almost two hours for him to arrive before we could finally get back inside. To be fair, we share the apartment with other guests, so it definitely wasn’t our fault that we got locked out.

For our first night in Málaga, we had planned to go out. When we came back to the apartment at around 4 a.m., we realised that we were locked out once again – this time with no way of reaching anyone who could let us in. We almost ended up homeless for the night, but luckily we became friends with two Italian girls who kindly offered us a place to sleep. The next morning, we contacted our host again, and he managed to solve the problem once more.

Monday: Our first day at work was also the first time the three of us met each other, and we immediately spent the rest of the day together. Later that evening, we watched the football match between Portugal and Spain in the city centre, surrounded by an incredible atmosphere.

The next day we got down to business and planned the upcoming week. With our very flexible working hours the next few days were pretty chill. 🧘‍♀️

On Thursday, after we finished working we decided to take a trip to Nerja, about an hour away from Málaga and absolutely beautiful. Our plan was to rent a SUP and paddle for about an hour to a waterfall, which went surprisingly well – even though we weren’t wearing life jackets. After spending around 30 minutes at the waterfall, we started paddling back. Since we only had one paddle for the two of us, we had to fight against strong winds and unusually rough waves. We were knocked off our SUP several times, barely made any progress, and my legs started cramping badly. Just when it seemed like there was no way back, a rescue boat appeared, picked us up, and brought us safely back to the beach. Only God knows what would have happened if that boat hadn’t come…

We spent the rest of the evening in Nerja before catching our bus back to Málaga at 10 p.m. About halfway through the journey, we noticed a strong burning smell. Looking out of the window, we realised that a large part of the surrounding forest was on fire due to the heat, while firefighters and several firefighting planes were doing everything they could to stop the blaze.

Despite all these unexpected adventures, we are enjoying every single day in the beautiful region of Andalusia. We absolutely love the unique mix of Spanish and Arab culture, the amazing atmosphere especially during the World Cup, and everything this incredible place has to offer.
