During my Erasmus+ stay, I worked at This is Med as a sales assistant at the ticket station for boat trips. My main responsibility was selling tickets and assisting customers who wanted to join one of the two different boat tours – one on a classic, older boat and the other on a newer, more modern boat.
I worked from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., which was the perfect schedule for me because I could sleep in and still enjoy the rest of my day. The ticket station was located in a fantastic area, right next to the harbor and opposite the famous Columbus Monument, which made the workplace even more enjoyable.
The job was very varied because I met people from all over the world every day. I used my English constantly while communicating with international customers, and I also improved my Spanish by talking to locals and my colleagues.
One of the best parts of the job was that I could join the boat trips for free whenever I wanted. I also had unlimited access to snacks, drinks, and food during work, which made the working environment even more comfortable.
What I appreciated the most was the team. Everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, and supportive, and I always felt like part of the group. There was also one older colleague who left a very special impression on me. Unfortunately, we could never really have a proper conversation because she only spoke Spanish, and my Spanish was still quite limited. Even so, she welcomed me from the very first day as if I were part of her family. She treated me like a second son, and to me, she felt like a second mother. I only wish we had been able to communicate more, because she was such a warm, caring, and genuinely kind person.
Overall, this internship was an unforgettable experience. It helped me improve my English, develop my Spanish, gain confidence, and meet amazing people from many different countries. I will always look back on my time at This is Med with great appreciation and many wonderful memories.
