Amelie B: Bidding farewell to Barcelona
Our last week in Barcelona was full of moments that rounded off the past four weeks perfectly. Spain won the World Cup, and the whole city turned into one big celebration. The streets were packed, people were singing, chanting, and waving flags everywhere.
During the week, we went back to Bunkers del Carmel. The view over Barcelona is incredible, and watching the sunset from up there felt like a calm, beautiful way to take in the city one last time.
The most emotional part of the week was saying goodbye to the children at our summer camp. After four weeks together, they had really grown close to us. It wasn’t easy to leave, and the farewell felt heavier than expected.
Our final weekend started with a sunrise stand-up paddle tour — the water was quiet, the sky slowly turning orange, and the whole experience felt special. Afterwards, we wandered through the city again, visited our favorite café, and enjoyed Barcelona’s nightlife one last time.
On Sunday, the moment we had been avoiding finally arrived: cleaning the apartment and packing our suitcases. It felt strange to wrap up everything so quickly after such an intense and fun month.
I’m sad that the four weeks passed so fast, but the goodbye is a little easier knowing that our next stop is vacation.
Barcelona gave us a lot — great days at work, beautiful views, lively streets, and memories that will stay with us. Saying goodbye wasn’t easy, but it feels like the right ending to a really good chapter.
