On Sunday, we started early in the morning with a visit to the Ateneum Art Museum, one of Helsinki’s most famous galleries. Our guide, Johanna, walked us through a collection of stunning Finnish art by renowned artists as well as a Van Gogh painting. The self-portrait of the young woman in the painting below is by Tove Jansson, the creator of the world-famous Moomin characters.
Also Nico, a student from the Pergo College, accompanied us today.
After the museum, Mr. Crewe and Professor Kamml took us on a boat trip to the island fortress of Suomenlinna. Once there, Johanna shared stories about the history of the island. We spent about three hours exploring the fortress, enjoying the fresh air and breathtaking views as we walked around the island.
After a full day of exploring, we returned to the harbour and had some free time. Some friends and I decided to grab a bite at a place called Chicken Joint, where we ate chicken to wrap up the day. It was the perfect end to an incredible day!
